Hello there, gorgeous! Hope you’re hanging with me throughout my slight hiatus. I have a confession…I have been spending all of my spare time….READING! Now honestly, I don’t get much spare time. Between being a wife, mom and soaking up this spring sun exercising and playing outdoors, I don’t get much time for anything else! Yes, fashion, beauty, makeup, hair and all that good stuff still tickle my fancy. However, I’m a true book-lover at heart. You may remember getting a sneak preview of that during one of my previous posts, Sexy Reads for Fall Snuggles. And I’ve been spending every waking moment that I can (during my kid’s naps mostly) reading my ass off! Here’s what I’ve marked off my book list lately:
NO SECOND CHANCE
Dr. Marc Seidman has been shot twice, his wife has been murdered, and his six-month-old daughter has been kidnapped. When he gets the ransom note-he knows he has only one chance to get this right. But there is nowhere he can turn and no one he can trust.
This book was FAB! It has the right amount of mystery and suspense to keep your adrenaline pumping. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and it started off with a bang, literally! Are you in the market for a book that takes you on a virtual roller coaster ride? There were so many close calls that I think the book itself gave me anxiety and trust issues. From start to finish, you’ll never guess how it turns out.
THE JULIETTE SOCIETY
Before we go any further, let’s get this out of the way. I want you to do three things for me.
One. Do not be offended by anything you read beyond this point.
Two. Leave your inhibitions at the door.
Three, and most important. Everything you see and hear from now on must remain between us.
Now, let me take you to a place you’ve never been before…
Sounds great right? Lies! This book SUCKED. I was in the mood for something sex-ay! I became pregnant after reading Fifty Shades of Grey (yes, it was that good, hunny), and I don’t think I’ve read anything that sexy since (thus the reason I only have one child at this point 🙂 ). Welp, this one didn’t do it. It was horribly written, and the main character had a lot of flashbacks and in-her-head weird moments that confused the mind and made you wonder what exactly you were reading. It made the storyline jumpy, the sex scenes seemed to be written by a truck-driver or construction worker that needed to get his jollies and it was just overall TACKY. FAIL.
THE PRETTY ONE
All Megan Fletcher had wanted was to be like her sister Lucy: a beautiful, thin girl whom everyone at the Chesapeake School for Performing Arts worshipped and adored. While Lucy was a star actress with lots of fans, Megan had always been hiding behind the set designs that she and her best friend Simon had created, hoping that no one would notice her. And then one day, life as Megan knew it had changed forever. Megan was in an accident that disfigured her face and plastic surgeons had to restructure it very carefully. Only no one would have thought that when the bandages came off, Megan would be even more beautiful than Lucy.
Okay, you caught me! I love to read books out of the juniors section…so what?! I also buy clothes out of that section too, but that’s a confession for another day…
If you’re expecting deep, life-changing and profound, then this most certainly is NOT the book for you. If, however, you have a busy and hectic life, get bombarded with real life ish, and want to take a break from all the madness with a no-brainer, then this is the book for you. It’s unrealistic and childish at points, but with that being said, I lowkey LOVED it! Ha!
THE LYNBURG LEGACY
Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.
But all that changes when the Lynburns return.
The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?
The above is the synopsis for book one. If you’re into a good fantasy read, and you love series (and series are my FAVEEEEE) then give this one a try. I have to say, I’m a pretty straight shooter…I don’t willingly do fantasy reads unless I hear tons of buzz or I’m coerced. I dug Twighlight and The Hunger Games–they were some of my faves! So when my cousins let me borrow this series I was excited to read it, yet reluctant because this type of read isn’t my go-to. Although it started off slow, I was quickly dedicated to this series and enjoyed every second of it! The book had tons of dry humor which I adore, and it was a smooth read!
THE BREATHING SERIES
In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She’s more concerned with feigning perfection while pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises – not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is. Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth – but at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.
I’m currently reading this one now, and I’m halfway through book 3. This one is a stunner!!! I didn’t expect it to be all that, I just grabbed it because I copped the entire series at once for a great price at Half-Price Books. Have you ever read a book that you felt like once it was over, it had taken a piece of your soul with it? Oh, it’s just me this happens to? I haven’t even finished it yet, but it’s amazing! It’s deep, multifaceted, overwhelming, emotional, sexy, sad, and at times humorous! Go go go!
So what’s on your book list? Have you read any of the above, or had experience with any of these above authors?
