Cheap, Easy (& Delish) Homemade Protein Bars

protein bars

Protein Bars are robbery!  Why?  First and foremost, they’re flipping disgusto!  I’ve tried several brands and they’re just not my cup of tea.  Secondly, they’re expensive!  I’m not the biggest meat eater, and I workout quite a bit, so I do try to sneak in protein from other sources.

Well, in my search to save a few bucks and find something easy, tasty and something that won’t murder my workouts with calorie overload, I ran across a recipe in which I slightly modified from Pinterest…I thought I’d share!  They looked similar to the picture shown above except that we nibbled, pinched and tore at it instead of neatly cutting into squares! 😉 I was able to purchase most ingredients from Aldi which saved even more $$$$…WINNING!  These were almost a little TOO tasty!  Here goes!

NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE PEANUT BETTER PROTEIN BARS

3 cups of oatmeal (uncooked)

3/4 cups of honey

1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter

1/4 protein powder-I used chocolate flavor Purely Inspired Organic Protein

1/2 cup (maybe less) of chocolate chips (chilled in freezer)

1/2 cup peanut halves

I heated the honey and peanut butter on the stove.  Once melted together and creamy, remove from heat and add the protein powder.  Then, add the rest of the ingredients.  Refrigerate overnight or until ingredients have formed together (I actually keep these in the fridge).  You could substitute with any type of nuts, protein powder and maybe even add some dried fruit if you’re feeling extra freaky!  No, I didn’t count calories, but nothing in the ingredient list is too bad for you (all in moderation, right?) Enjoy!

Meek

Fashion: What’s on My Christmas List

Tis the season to wish I had more money!  LOL!  Isn’t it amazing how the holidays can make you revert to a 7 year old?  “Oooh, I want this.  Ooh, I want that.  Oooh, I wish I had this!”  And while I know that the most important thing about the holiday is family, health and all of those things, that doesn’t stop me from scouring the internet and wishing I had loads of cash to dump everywhere I wanna 😉

These are some of the items from Forever 21 and H&M that I wish Santa would slide down my chimney:

H&m jumpsuit

When I first looked at this, it struck me as ugly.  But upon further review brainwashing, I think I like this!  The pattern is unique, and it has sort of a 70’s swag.  I’d love to wear this with some fresh-faced makeup and a dark burgundy lip.

h&m jumpsuit 2H&m jumpsuit

Yes, I obviously have a thing for jumpsuits.  This one here gives me goosebumps…I love the color and I would love to pimp this out with a splash of bright color or continue with muted colors and give a super bold matte lippie Previous Post: Melt Cosmetics Lipstick with a gold chunky statement-piece necklace.

Click Here: Forever 21 Houndstooth Skirt $22.90

I love this skirt!  I am a super fan of Houndstooth and Chevron.  I would personally pair this skirt with a red shirt, and I feel like it would be cute to rock this winter with some black boots.

Click Here: Forever 21 Shirt Dress $29.90

How do you feel about shirt dresses?  I’m always scared that my cheeks will hang out the bottom, but obviously models are taller than my mere 5’2?!  If it’s too short, I’ll pair it with some dark patterned tights, and I would likely wear tights or legging this winter to keep from dying of hyperthermia.  I would also like to throw on my Knit Cuff Hiking Boots that I bought a while back from Rue 21 Previous Post: Boots

What do you ladies think about these?  And what clothes are on your Christmas Wish List?

Suds of Beauty African Black Soap

black soap

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE?  I have been blessed with good skin really always, thanks to genetics and a strict regimen of taking care of it.  I’ve been a fan of Black Soap forever–truly as long as I can remember.  I  purchased it from the beauty supply store, which is not organic.  It’s dyed black and heavy in fragrance.  But it worked well and I liked using it.

For the past couple of years, I’ve really dived in to organic skincare and lifestyle choices.  No, I don’t eat only grass, nuts and berries and wash my face and body with banana peels–but I do try to make as many organic purchases as possible until I completely make the switch.  So, a few months ago, I started buying raw African black soap.  And, recently, I was provided with the opportunity to utilize Suds of Beauty African Black Soap for free in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

The customer service was great, and that’s a big plus in my book!  The owner and his wife run this business from their home, and I think it’s always cool to support small businesses!  My bar of soap arrived quickly and omg, is it HUGE, approximately 1lb!  That’s an awesome amount for the price.  A bar of this size will last several weeks, as you just cut off a piece of a time to use and store the rest.  It doesn’t really have a smell and since it’s all natural-you don’t have to be worried about fragrance or dyes.

When you first use African Black Soap, your skin feels dry and tight.  “It’s believed this is caused by the soap drawing out impurities and excess oils.  After a few days the PH levels of the skin will balance out (which is why it is believed to be good for both dry and oily skin).”

I believe that to be true, because it quickly subsides after the first few days.  And what remains is great blemish-free, soft skin!

Now, what you DO have to be careful of, and that’s with any black soap, is DON’T YOU DARE GET SOME IN YOUR EYES.  The first time I did, I thought I would go blind, truly.  It stings like nobody’s business, and I thought it would burn my eyes straight up out of the socket!  LOL!  Don’t let that scare you though, but it is something to take note of.

Many people use African Black Soap for their hair–I have yet to try that, but want to in the future.  I hear it’s fab for promoting a clean environment for great hair growth!

So for me, great customer service, a huge bar for a great price ($16.99 USD on Amazon), and numerous health benefits is a win!  I really love Suds of Beauty African Black Soap, and will be a repeat customer for sure!

Have you guys ever tried African Black Soap or use it in your current beauty regimen?  What have your results been like?

Freaky Friday: Online Shopping Looking Like $H*T!

Freaky-friday-movie-logo

We may laugh, we may cry, we may curse.  It may be thought-provoking or a much-needed no-brainer after an intense work-week.  Freaky Fridays are all about a change of pace, oddities, or simply off-topic posts.  So let’s get started!

Grocery shopping is an annoying task for many–5000 check out counters and only one line open, people up your ass and on your heals with their carts, and the times you go in for a carton of milk and there’s a million people inside (the parking lot didn’t look this full, what, are they all driving clown-cars?!).  With all that being said, it’s not something that I really dreaded, but it wasn’t my favorite thing to do.  And it got even lower on the list once I became a mother.

Have you ever tried shopping with a two-year old?  “Mommy, I hungry.  Mommy, I get out?  Mommy, ‘nack!  Mommy, I pee pee.”  You get the picture.  I usually am the one out grabbing the items, my husband is spouting off the list and is pushing the cart and getting kicked in the balls (how bad can that hurt, anyway?  he acts like he’s going to effin’ die), and my son is shouting his ABC’s at the top of his sweet little lungs.  We make it fun, we are usually singing together and dancing about the aisles with stares from senior citizens.  But as much as my son is a bundle of chunky, yummy, cuteness, he doesn’t make grocery shopping the easiest experience.  And, sticking to the grocery budget?  Hell no.  Nobody has time to add up how much we are spending.  So this week, I decided to try Hyvee online grocery shopping.

So there’s one pretty much about 5 minutes away from my house.  The online system is super easy–I like the way you can see all of the items/totals along the way.  And, I can put something back without being humiliated in line.  It’s also cool because I can run to the kitchen to see if I have something already, instead of duplicating items.  I grocery shopped looking like crap with a do-rag on my head–holla!  You won’t be doing that shit inside the grocery store.  Or maybe you will, but I won’t ;). I always see someone I know!

bonnet

I scheduled my groceries to be delivered 2 days later…you can even specify the time–and the Hyvee man arrived on time as promised. There’s no fee when you total $100 or more, and the fee is only $4.95 if under that amount (plus tax). I don’t know what the fuck I was thinking though.  I had been debating between trying Hyvee and Door-to-Door Organics.  Door-to-Door leaves them on your step I think with dry-ice in a cooler I read.  I confused my two stores, and therefore, I didn’t change clothes.  He rang the doorbell, and I just sat watching all excited with my love bug.  Well, when he kept ringing, I figured I better answer LOL.  Promise you won’t laugh?  Liar.  I answered the door with my hair uncombed and some tinkerbell pjs, and furry socks which didn’t match.  Additionally, my tinkerbell pjs were high-water because I purchased them out of the kids section.  My son had on a St. Patrick’s Day shirt (at least his hair was combed and no, it’s not St. Patrick’s Day in Missouri).  My lover is currently painting the inside of my house and it looks like it should be condemned.  I could have DIED on the spot when he proceeded to come in with the crates.  I was so mortified that I forgot to tip him until about an hour later.  I pray for no boogers in the future.  He was nice as hell so, I hope he looked at me and assumed I’m on my last leg and has mercy on me.

So with that being said, I super enjoyed ordering groceries online!  I stuck to my budget, and I’m going to try it for a few weeks to see what’s up.

Have you guys ever shopped for groceries online?  What service did you use?

Happy Friday friends!  XO!

DermOrganic: Organic Skin Care Sampler

dermoganic skin care sampler

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE?  I can’t get enough of organic skincare, and hope to be reviewing lots of these type of products in the future!  My face is pretty normal and/or occasionally combination with a slight side of dry in the winter.  The rest of my body tends to be a little more dry.  So I’m always on the hunt to find something I love!

DermOrganic  offers vegan and no-crap-stuff hair and skin products.  So, when I was provided with a free Skin Care Sampler for my honest, unbiased, expert, beauty product addicted review, I was more than thrilled!

The sampler comes with a Soapless Facial Cleanser, Facial Moisturizer, and a Moisture Lotion, all fragrance-free.

I didn’t wear makeup the day I tried it (I told ya I’ve been a bare-faced slouch this week, don’t judge me).  But the facial cleanser worked well–it was my first soapless facial cleanser.  Once I was done, my face didn’t feel overly dry and felt clean!    I followed up with the facial moisturizer, which was light with just the right amount of sheen and made my skin feel nice and look great the rest of the day!

I later tried the body lotion, and I wasn’t a fan–it didn’t really support my ash-free zone living!  It went on nice and gave a little moisture, but I didn’t really feel that it soaked into my skin, it sort of stayed on top.  And, after an hour or so, my hands and legs again felt dry and my feet looked similar to walking around in a package powder donuts.  Additionally, I didn’t like the smell of the lotion (I know, it’s fragrance free) but to me, it sort of smelled like plastic going on.  The smell quickly dissipated though after a few minutes, so that wasn’t major.  In all fairness though, I do tend to lean towards heavier lotions, butters and creams, so if you don’t, then this lotion may be your thing!

All-in-all, I think it’s worth trying!  And I love that they provide a sample pack with these items to try all together.  Have you heard of DermOrganic?

Happy Turkey Day friends!  What are you doing for your Thanksgiving?

Gift Idea: The Color Workshop Eye Set

the color workshop

Hey guys!  I’m happy to inform you that I stumbled across another el-cheapo find that’s right on time for the holidays!  You could buy it for a gift or gift it to yourself!  I really almost bypassed it because it was close to the kiddie makeup section in wally world–you know the section that has the makeup for like 12 year-olds that usually don’t show any color when applied and have the fake whole nails with flowers and dogs on them?  I literally put it back twice.  But in the end, my inner makeup-addict demon won, and I threw it in the cart next to my other stuff.

Umm, don’t let that price fool you!  Because that eyeshadow is the bomb.com/cute/fantastic!  The colors blend super smoothly and they have just the right amount of sparkle (and, the sparkle isn’t just on top of the color, it goes all the way through).  As you can see, there is a great mix of fall, night and daytime looks in this set.  Score!  Now, you knowwwww how I feel about my Elf Eyeshadow Palette  Previous Post-Elf Eyeshadow Palette, and I’m not having an affair.  But The Color Worskshop and I may hold hands and kiss just a little…

It comes with some false eyelashes, 2 of which look semi-tarantula-ish and I haven’t tried yet.  Tarantula eyes aren’t my fave, but I’ll try anything once, maybe twice.  But it’s more like I’ve been too lazy to jack with those.  It comes with some sparkly liquid eyeliner which I tried and failed, miserably. And later, I kept feeling like I had pieces of it in my eye.  But, I’m going to reserve judgment on that because I haven’t used anything like that before. The color is dang sure pretty if you like glitter!

I haven’t used the gel eyeliner or other pencils in there either.  I’m truly just a sucker for self-sharpening, retractable eyeliners.  But I will for sure once I’m done bare-face slouching these days.

And it comes with eyeshadow applicators–uh, does anybody use these?  I only used mine to dab color on my arm prior to applying on my face because I was excited.  Isn’t everyone on the brush train?

Really, all of that other stuff is great, but I think $9.98 USD makes this a win, even if everything else was horrid.  Also, side note, check out this review on the walmart link.  It made me LOL!

What do you think about this set?

Oh, and I forgot, it comes with a mascara too.

Two Must-Haves for Your Face!

Mud Mask Mineral Mud Soap

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE?  I have very sensitive skin, and am really selective in the items I use.  My favorites are organic beauty products!

I am so excited to tell you about two wonderful new products that I stumbled upon, and had the pleasure of reviewing!  Aspen Kay Naturals is a family-owned company whose story began in 2007 and focuses on all natural and organic skincare! So, when I was sent a few free products in exchange for my honest, unbiased expert opinion, I couldn’t wait to give it a whirl!

Listen here, when these items arrived, the mud-mask and soap smelled SO GOOD that I literally almost didn’t do a review because I ate them, lol.  I mean, I really wish I could form words on how fabulous they smelled…it just made me want to run and skip through a field with a flowered-headband on in a white dress holding hands with my hubby, happy and jolly like the girls look on a tampon commercial (hope this visual helped). If you can imagine walking into the most expensive uppity spa to get a facial and a spa, where you have a white robe on and a towel in your hair–this was the scene in my little ole bathroom (inside my head).  Ahhh…….hearts, flowers, daisies and sunshine….

The Aspen Kay Dead Sea Mud Mask felt amazing going on my face and neck.  It has something grainy in it, and it was tingling while on the face in a menthol-type way.  I put it on my face and my husbands (don’t kill me, lover) and we sat for 10 minutes.  My son started to cry when he looked at my husband, but I’m fairly certain that had nothing to do with the quality of the product itself.  Once we rinsed, we were both left with such smooth, well-moisturized, exfoliated skin.  The directions say to follow-up with your favorite moisturizer, but my skin was so well hydrated, I honestly didn’t put anything on afterwards.  And, the fab thing is it didn’t leave your skin feeling tight like many facial products do.  The instructions say to use weekly, but truly, I loved it so much that I don’t think I’ll be able to wait a week in between application.

I’ve used the Dead Sea Mineral Soap a few times in the shower, and it smells soooooooooooooooo good.  The scent is light and not overpowering, but boy is it fab and my skin has such a great glow to it afterwards.  Both of these products were a true 10 out of 10 for me.  I can’t wait to try more of their products, and if you’re into organic for your body and skin, I highly recommend you give it a whirl!  The icing on the cake is that the price is great!  Here’s the scoop about how these work for your skin:
