Cheap, Easy (& Delish) Homemade Protein Bars

protein bars

Protein Bars are robbery!  Why?  First and foremost, they’re flipping disgusto!  I’ve tried several brands and they’re just not my cup of tea.  Secondly, they’re expensive!  I’m not the biggest meat eater, and I workout quite a bit, so I do try to sneak in protein from other sources.

Well, in my search to save a few bucks and find something easy, tasty and something that won’t murder my workouts with calorie overload, I ran across a recipe in which I slightly modified from Pinterest…I thought I’d share!  They looked similar to the picture shown above except that we nibbled, pinched and tore at it instead of neatly cutting into squares! 😉 I was able to purchase most ingredients from Aldi which saved even more $$$$…WINNING!  These were almost a little TOO tasty!  Here goes!

NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE PEANUT BETTER PROTEIN BARS

3 cups of oatmeal (uncooked)

3/4 cups of honey

1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter

1/4 protein powder-I used chocolate flavor Purely Inspired Organic Protein

1/2 cup (maybe less) of chocolate chips (chilled in freezer)

1/2 cup peanut halves

I heated the honey and peanut butter on the stove.  Once melted together and creamy, remove from heat and add the protein powder.  Then, add the rest of the ingredients.  Refrigerate overnight or until ingredients have formed together (I actually keep these in the fridge).  You could substitute with any type of nuts, protein powder and maybe even add some dried fruit if you’re feeling extra freaky!  No, I didn’t count calories, but nothing in the ingredient list is too bad for you (all in moderation, right?) Enjoy!

Meek

Wow, i’m so excited about this! I love granola bars, but I just can’t stomach the protein kind (which is the kind I need!) Totally need to make these. I bet my husband would love to take some protein energy bars to the field. Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome. They are sooooooo good!!!! And I’ve thought about adding dried fruit etc too to change it up. The protein bars in the store are just so gross!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Xo!
