Natural Hair, Big Chop & Eden Body Works!

So, back in August, I big chopped my locks off and decided to go natural!  For me, the decision was an easy one–I had long, relaxed hair since I was about 7 years old.  I’d been through the ups and downs throughout the years of breakage, growth, hair cuts, perm burns etc.  I’d grown tired of weave which I’d worn the last year and a half, relaxers which I’d worn a lifetime, and putting the chemicals on my head that close to my brain every 6 weeks religiously…it contradicted the healthy lifestyle I’d been living.  I’m not saying relaxers will kill you, but I personally, have no damn idea of what’s even in there and I was tired of slapping it on my head in an attempt to beat my kinky locks into a straight, silky existence.

My husband was my biggest supporter as always–the best thing in life is when you have someone ALWAYS unwavering in your corner.  No, not everyone liked my twa (teenie weeny afro), and some were vocal in saying so–as if I asked?!  Sure, it hurt my feelings, but I mostly didn’t give two-shits because I loved it!  It’s liberating, fun and interesting.  I’m getting a first-hand view of something on my OWN body that I’ve never seen–and that’s my hair in it’s natural state.  Can you imagine seeing something that’s yours on your own body for the first time you can remember in over 30 years?

After the chop, the real work begins!  What used to work on your relaxed locks, no longer works on your natural locks.  Natural hair girls have their own lingotwa, jbco, Loc Method...the list goes on and on.  Anyone that’s been on the natural hair journey train, knows there’s LOTS of trial and error involved.  I was sent some products from Eden Body Works in exchange for my honest, unbiased, review, and I wanted to chat with you guys about them  🙂

An exotic blend of nourishing ingredients to strengthen hair, prevent breakage, and add shine without oily buildup. Perfect for use on braids, locs, twists, coils and other natural, relaxed and color treated hairstyles. For best results, use in conjunction with other COCONUT SHEA products.
First thing I noticed about these products was the smell–delightful!  It smells very natural and lightly of coconut!
I used my other shampoo and conditioner I had, but followed up with using a dab of the Natural Pudding Soufflé and the All Natural Curl defining crème followed by the All Natural Hair Oil.  These products were light and didn’t leave a heavy residue which I loved, but it was also heavy enough to add some sheen and softness to kinks.  My first use wasn’t an absolute success–it really takes some playing around to find the order and amount to add to natural hair.  But I really enjoyed them, and can definitely see me adding this to my regular hair care regimen!  I also feel like you get a large amount for a great price!

Ps.  I love their About Us page:

EDEN BodyWorks’ INSPIRED BY NATURE, PERFECTED BY YOU campaign is a celebration of the everyday women.

There are countless unrealistic depictions of women in the media. It’s hard to discover what real beauty is, what healthy looks like, and what it means to truly love the skin (and HAIR) you’re in.

It’s great to have role models. It’s okay to aspire to be better and want more from yourself. It’s not okay when those desires cause you to reject or despise the person you are right now in the process. Those “examples” should never negatively impact your self-worth or appreciation of your own value.

When I lost my hair due to damage as a young girl, I lost myself. My physical beauty defined who I was and who I could be. I was forced to redefine myself to myself and to the world. In my alone time I discovered what I was good at, things that made me happy, and how I could positively impact the world. I also saw the pressures I put on myself and the stress of trying to be anyone but myself. Today, I’m overjoyed to have the freedom of self-acceptance. I’m thankful for this opportunity to be the best ME I can be and to inspire others that they can have that same inner joy.

EDEN BodyWorks has gathered women from across the country who are proud to be a positive reflection of beauty inside and out.  We hope that this campaign inspires you to love yourself more and to open your eyes to the beautiful person you see in the mirror everyday.

A women with ‘real beauty’ is:

Brave – enough to go against the mainstream
Educated – about health and herself
Accepting – of others and their differences
Unique – because she creates her own style and embraces her perception of the world
Thoughtful – as , she understands the impact she has on the world just by existing
YOU! – just the way you are. flaws” and all.
