Gift Guide: Nighttime Relaxation for the Organic

gift guide

Everywhere you look there’s a holiday gift guide!  But if you’re looking for something unconventional and organic, here’s a good one that doesn’t break the bank!

This one made me think of a nighttime ritual–you know we all have them!  These are the things you do in preparation and anticipation for your long awaited night of sleep…ahhhhhhh!  You could pair these gifts with some fuzzy holiday socks or a book!

Here is a holiday gift guide for your organic-loving friend who could use a few Zzzzzz’s!

goats milkNothing starts off bedtime better than a relaxing bath or shower.  Aspen Kay Naturals Lavender & Goats Milk soap is perfect for this!  By now, you may have seen my previous post about Aspen Kay Naturals’ Dead Sea Mud Mask and Dead Sea Soap, which made me want to skip through a field wearing a flowered headband jolly like a tampon commercial.  These products smell amazing and the Goats Milk is right in line with the others.

I am truly not a fan of lavender, I just don’t think it smells great normally and have always avoided products containing lavender.  This soap is great–the lavender scent is very light and it also gives a hint of something minty-smelling which is a GREAT combination!  The benefits of lavender use are too numerous to name, but it’s most popular benefit is the effect it has on sleep.

For example, lavender has been shown to decrease heart rate and blood pressure, potentially putting you in a more relaxed state. In one study, researchers monitored the brain waves of subjects at night and found that those who sniffed lavender before bed had more deep sleep and felt more vigorous in the morning. Another study of infants found that they cried less and slept more deeply after a bath with lavender scented oils.

whipped shea butterAfter a bath or shower, it’s especially important to moisturize your skin always, especially during these dry winter months.  Rise ‘N’ Shine has some great products–we talked about my foot facial using their Bentonite Clay in an previous post–delightful!!  And I have since tried it on my hair and had great results as well!

Shea Butter has numerous benefits which over time leaves you with some great skin!  Rise ‘N’ Shine is the first brand/kind of pure Shea Butter I’ve ever used and the smell is…distinct?  It doesn’t stink, stank, stunk, but let’s just say, if you’ve never smelled pure Shea Butter before it’s a tad shocking, lol!  I used it anyway despite any hesitation and boy am I glad I did!  It leaves my skin moisturized all day long and feels amazing!  Good news is that the smell dissipates fairly quickly.  It’s also truly great for those rough winter hands, and worked fast to soften them.

teaLet’s finish up the night with a cup of Prince of Peace Oolong Tea!  This is a great buy for 100 bags and it arrives super quickly!  Have you heard of Oolong tea and it’s many list of health benefits?  It’s said to reduce cholesterol, combat free radicals, controls obesity, prevent tooth decay and lots lots more!  It tastes like black tea, and I like mine with a little splenda and occasionally a Halls Honey Lemon Cough Drop, don’t knock it ’til ya try it!  Or, what about a hot toddy?

If you are extremely caffeine sensitive then this may not be your bedtime choice (as it does contain some).  However, I am, and I’ve had no problems having a cup before bed and sleeping like a baby!  Side note: where does this phrase come from, my baby woke up every 2 hours when he was a newborn?!!?!
