Freaky Friday: Sexy Reads For Fall Snuggles

We may laugh, we may cry, we may curse.  It may be thought-provoking or a much-needed no-brainer after an intense work-week.  Freaky Fridays are all about a change of pace, oddities, or simply off-topic posts.  So let’s get started!

photo-24769744-silhouette-of-a-man-kissing-the-neck-of-a-girlSo, 50 Shades of Grey was all the rage!  It seems as though you heard about it on every channel, passed by numerous displays, and all of your girlfriends were giggling about it (or scoffing and barking about how offensive and trashy it is).  I even went to a 50 Shades book party–and that was a blast!  Now that the rage has died down some, I want to chat about this and some other sexy books/authors.  Some of these are teeny bopper books–don’t judge!  I’m a big fan of the teen read section–hell real life is hectic enough!  Sometimes I just want to rest my brain and read some easy-flowing-sexy-fun stuff!

50 Shades of Grey by E.L James: EL JAMES BOOKS LINK Well, alrighty then!  This sucker was SEXY.  I must say, not only was this a hot, steamy read, but it was a damn how-to book!  LOL!  It had been ages since I’ve read a book this explicit–yet, I couldn’t put it down.  I was a feign for more, more, more and couldn’t wait to get to the end!  I’m no prude by far, but golllllll-leee!  I often found myself grinning like some freak while reading.  Shortly thereafter finishing the series, I became pregnant.  THAT. IS. ALL.

Side note: I HATED the movie.  That was not Christian in my head!  And, instead of coming to the movies, this should’ve went straight to Cinemax.  The big screen didn’t do it justice!  I would also like to say that I started Grey By E.L. James and it sucks.  They should’ve left well-enough alone.  It’s clipped, and non-dimensional.

When college senior Anastasia Steele steps in for her sick roommate to interview prominent businessman Christian Grey for their campus paper, little does she realize the path her life will take. Christian, as enigmatic as he is rich and powerful, finds himself strangely drawn to Ana, and she to him. Though sexually inexperienced, Ana plunges headlong into an affair — and learns that Christian’s true sexual proclivities push the boundaries of pain and pleasure.

Author: Eric Jerome Dickey: ERIC JEROME DICKEY BOOKS-LINK Dude has to be some type of pervert.  But I mean this in a complimentary way!  I couldn’t narrow this down to a specific book, because I’ve read tons of them!  Some are certainly better than others but they have one main theme, and that’s SEXY!  Some have interesting plots and twists and turns, and some are just down-right doing the dirty-dirty!

Easy Series by Tammara Webber: TAMMARA WEBBER BOOKS LINK I picked this one up as well as Unbreakable, the 2nd book, in the El-Cheapo section of the bookstore recently (teeny bopper alert).  This book is not so explicit, and has a sweet, genuine love story!  I’m not yet done with the 2nd book, but I love it so far.  And don’t be put off by the fact that it’s a teen book, it reads very well, and is not too juvenile for us adult folks!

“Easy” by Tammara Webber is an intriguing book about two college students finding love against the odds brought on by their individual trust issues. After Jacqueline’s boyfriend of three years dumps her, she is shocked to find herself attracted to Lucas, a “bad boy” who rescues her from an attempted rape. Since she is also drawn to Landon, her Economics tutor who helps her avoid failing the class, Jacqueline must decide who to trust as secrets about each guy comes to her attention. “Easy” is an extremely entertaining and enjoyable novel that demonstrates that people are not always what they seem, in both good and bad ways.

Gabriel’s Rapture by Sylvain Reynard: SYLVAIN REYNARD BOOKS LINK This book is about the taboo student-teacher relationship.  Every since Mary Kay Letourneau came into our lives, it seems as though society has had a forbidden obsession with these stories.  While disgusting and alarming in real life, it makes for an interesting read!  And since this follows a college-story, it’s not as unsettling.  I really enjoyed this one!

Professor Gabriel Emerson has embarked on a passionate, yet clandestine affair with his former student, Julia Mitchell. Sequestered on a romantic holiday in Italy, he tutors her in the sensual delights of the body and the raptures of sex. But when they return, their happiness is threatened by conspiring students, academic politics, and a jealous ex-lover. When Gabriel is confronted by the university administration, will he succumb to Dante’s fate? Or will he fight to keep Julia, his Beatrice, forever? In Gabriel’s Rapture, the brilliant sequel to the wildly successful debut novel, Gabriel’s Inferno, Sylvain Reynard weaves an exquisite love story that will touch the reader’s mind, body, and soul, forever.

Anyone else enjoy some sexy reads?  What are your favorite books/authors?  Have you read any of the above books?

It’s going to be a crisp weekend in the Show Me State!  Hope it’s warm where you are, or you can cuddle up with a steamy book or your honey this weekend!  I’m likely to do both!  xo!

3 Amigos For Us Short-Lashed Girls

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE?  So I’ve touched on this before, but I feel as though my lashes suck.  Some of you beauties I’m sure are blessed with lashes for days.  (I hate you, that is all).  And while mine are fairly thick, they are so short!  It also seems like such a waste to me that men/boys have such gorgeous lashes.  My husband and son have lashes for DAYSSSSSS and so did my father.  But here I sit, short and curly.  **stomps feet.**

I am the biggest fan of false lashes.  Not the huge, fat, thick, weird-looking tarantula ones, but the others.  For me, I can’t truly get the length I desire from Mascara.  Since I wear glasses, I feel like falsies make my eyes pop more.  I do wear mascara when I’m too lazy to do my lashes or short on time.

Now, my favorite mascara to date is TARTE MASCARA BLOG LINK.  It really makes my lashes long and thick and so very pretty!  But uhhh…it’s 21 bucks.

I would much rather spend my dough on some fun lipstick or eyeshadow.  So I’ve used these drug-store lovelies with some really good results:

Our first broken heart-shaped brush creates a fringe of big, curvy, rockin’ lashes. This cleverly-shaped applicator twists and curves to hug the lash line; the thin tip grabs hard-to-reach inner lashes, while the amplified base pulses lashes with incredible volume and curve. Lashes are plumped and lifted in one clean stroke. No clumps!

Our first kohl pigment mascara
Complete the smoky eye look with dark, sultry lashes

Mastering the smoky eye look has never been easier
• Black kohl pigments guarantee lashes with an intensely matte, black finish
• Collagen-enriched formula plumps lashes with up to 9X more volume
• The Mega Brush loads lashes with big bold volume in one coat
• Clump-free volume
• Washable

300% MORE VISIBLE LASHES corner-to-corner, no gaps

Lash glam, instantly!
• Patented Spoon Brush fans out lashes from corner-to-corner, while our Pro-Keratin formula instantly builds volume without clumping
• Unique flexible wand helps to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of 300% more visible, fuller lashes, no gaps from any angle
• Contact lens safe and ophthalmologist-tested
• Washable, also available in Waterproof formula

I’ve personally had the best result from Scandal Eyes!  It gives good length and thickens them without too much clumping.

I’m curious, what do you girls use for mascara?  And are any of you false-eyelash lovers?  I want to do a review on false lashes, and would love to hear recommendations!

DIY Home Hair Color…do you?

hair dye

So, I have never dyed my hair before (well, if you count Sun-In that I used in high school–and I’m not really sure if that’s made for black girls, I looked like a clown and my daddy kept calling me Dennis Rodman, LOL).  Although I’ve often pondered it, I’m a slight chicken.  It seems as though every time I get the balls enough to go for it, there is some wicked horror story–or some poor girl in a mall who looks so horrid that I just know she had to do it herself, LOL–what other explanation could there be?!

Yes, yes, yes–I could go to a professional.  I have, however, had my fair share of horror stories with professionals too, and pretty much trust myself the best!  I’ve recently chopped my healthy mid-back hair to a TWA (known in the natural hair community as a teenie weeny afro) and I want to dye that sucker honey blonde!  I’ve always kept up with clothing and makeup trends, but realized a while ago that I had become stuck with the same hair FOREVER.  So eff that ish and let’s change it up!

While I continue to dive into my detailed, in-depth research and education regarding this matter (youtube, youtube and youtube,  Side note: why do people film youtube videos with shotty cameras/recording devices?! ) I have found the following tips online on Oprah’s site.  I mean, she’s Oprah–she should know, right?

  • Be Conservative: Don’t choose a color more than two to three shades lighter or darker than your natural color.
  • Enlist a Friend to Help: She can ensure that you don’t miss a spot on the back of your head.
  • Use Natural Light: The forgiving dimmer switch in your bathroom won’t do you any favors when you’re trying to gauge the intensity of a new haircolor.
  • Always Condition: Most kits come with a tube of deep conditioner. Use it right after you rinse out the dye, then do a deep-conditioning treatment at least once a week after that. It will help preserve color and shine.
  • After Your First Time, Dye Only Your Roots: Your hair will get brittle, and your color patchy, if you recolor your whole head every six weeks. When your roots start to show, apply dye only to the regrowth; comb it through the rest of your hair a few minutes before the processing time is up.

So what do you home-dye girls have to add to these tips?  I would love to hear from you–how long you’ve been coloring your own hair, what brand you use, mishaps etc.  Lmk!

Moisturizing Lip Balms That Deliver Color

Mineral Fusion Lipstick Butter in Blackberry and Burts Bees Lip Shimmer  (in Cherry and Caramel)

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE?  Sometimes I like to take a break from a bold matte lip and do something light and natural-ish.  These balms deliver great shine without looking like you’ve recently dined on a big Mac (not cute), and are super moisturizing for your lips.  During the fall and winter, keeping your lips well-hydrated is always a struggle.  Either of these brands would be a great choice, while showcasing some pretty shine!  You could either wear these solo, or pair them with a lipstick!

Mineral Fusion has great lasting-power!  It glides on very smooth and is creamy in texture.  It has great shine to it (with no sparkle) and is a very deep plum-like color!

Burts Bees is my favorite between the two.  For me personally, I like to save when I can, and both brands are equally fab. It has a menthol tingly feeling to it and it feels really soothing on the lips!  I’m also a super fan of the metallic sparkle it has.  The color is SO pretty in person.  It does bleed a little, but it’s still really worth trying!  I like it so much that I accidently washed the caramel one, and then took it out of the washer and put it on my wrist to see if it would still work (true story).  I ended up throwing it away, LOL!  I figured for 5 bucks, I could just buy another…

What do you girls think of these?

Avon Anew Reversalist Day & Night Cream

Avon Anew Reversalist Day and Night Cream

WILL WE BE FASHIONABLE? So I’ve searched high and low for the best moisturizer for my skin. I have been blessed to have good skin for the most part **knocks on wood**but it’s really sensitive. It has been hard to find a moisturizer that doesn’t leave my face so greasy that it feels like I could fry an egg on it…I HATE that feeling! And I hate for it to look extra shiny and gross!

With that being said, I really love Avon Anew Day and Night Cream. The cost isn’t terrible, and a little goes a long way. I like that the day cream has an spf 25 in it as well. I hate sunblock on my face! It’s so thick it makes me look like a clown, so this is a good substitute. The fragrance is really light and not overpowering, and it soaks into the skin very well–I love to wear it under my makeup. I noticed after about a week, my pores were less noticeable.

The night cream is a little thicker which it should be. I wake up and my skin is well moisturized. My face has a nice glow to it! I’ve been using it for about a year now! Sometimes Avon runs good sales on it but I’ve gotten the best price off of….drumroll…Amazon! Ahh…what did we do in the days before Amazon?!?!?

What do you girls use for moisturizer?

$32 USD each: Leaves skin looking renewed and hydrated throughout the day. Dramatically reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles and restores the look and feel of youthful firmness. Formulated with Tri-Elastinex technology. 93% of women agreed that their skin looked virtually line-free in just 1 week.

Freaky Friday: My Fave Fall Recipes–Sweet!

We may laugh, we may cry, we may curse.  It may be thought-provoking or a much-needed no-brainer after an intense work-week.  Freaky Fridays are all about a change of pace, oddities, or simply off-topic posts.  So let’s get started!

Fall is all about the changing leaves, crisp air, Halloween, fun crafts indoors for the family… and for me?  WEIGHT GAIN!  I say every year it’ll be different, but I generally pick up 5-7 lbs sometime between the months of October-December.  The cool air makes me cook my ass off (my faves are casseroles during this time of year), and I sometimes deviate from my healthy eating just a tad more as my sweet tooth gets to talking dirty in my ear!  I generally listen, dammit, and just bust my balls in January to get the poundage back off.  So until then, yolo!  Let the fun and games begin!

These are two of my family’s absolute favorites!  Don’t scroll past thinking “ehh, I’m not a Butterfinger fan” because I’m not either!  And I LOVE these.  Or, simply substitute a different type of candy if you wish!  And you’ll have plenty of candy to choose from since Halloween is next week!

Butterfinger Cream Pie-  It’s so easy!  The recipe doesn’t sound like much, but my oh my is it fab!  I found it on Pinterest a few years back…

butterfinger pie

  • 7 Butterfinger Bars
  • 12 oz Cool Whip
  • 8 oz Cream cheese softened (1 package)
  • Pie Crust/tin (I like graham cracker)
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar (I use Splenda, and truly, how many calories am I now saving?  LOL!)
  • A bottle of chocolate syrup

Crush up 5 of the 7 butterfingers leaving some chunky and some crushed.  I just usually crush them in the package they’re in.  Mix together softened cream cheese, sugar and cool whip.  Fold in Butterfinger chunks and add the entire mixture to the crust.  Chop the remaining 2 Butterfingers into large pieces and cover the top of the pie.  Then, use the chocolate syrup to make a fancy smancy design on the top of the pie.  Refrigerate for a while and then enjoy!

Butterfinger Cookies-I got this one out of a recipe book given to me by a friend–a family collaborated their favorite recipes.  OMG are these sooooooooooooooooooo soft and chewy.  I have to eat them directly off the pan!  Sigh!

butterfinger cookies

  • 1/2 cup of butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup of sugar (again, I use Splenda)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cup of chunky peanut butter (I do NOT like peanuts or chunky peanut butter, so I use smooth)
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup of flour (I add an additional 2 tablespoons because I use smooth PB, may not be needed for chunky)
  • 1/2 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp of salt (I use salt substitute)
  • 5 Butterfinger candy bars (2.1 oz each, chopped)

Preheat oven to 350.  Cream butter and sugars.  Add egg whites; beat well.  Blend in peanut butter and vanilla.  Combine flour, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well.  Stir in candy bars.  Roll into 1 1/2″ balls and place on greased cookie sheet.  Bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown.  Yields 4 dozen.

I saw this online this morning, and I think I’m going to check out some of these recipes too:

Happy pigout! xo!
