Beautiful Trendy Jewelry from Tara Lynn’s Boutique!

Happy Summer!  Hope your 4th of July was poppin!

If you’re anything like me, then you LOVE finding beautifully, unique jewelry pieces.  I stumbled upon a STUNNING necklace and I wanted to share some information with you guys about it.

Do you remember when we looked at some super cute clothes from Tara Lynn’s Boutique in a previous post?  This place is one of my favorites, because you see a lot of clothing that appears to be one-of-a-kind (you don’t see it on everyone else)!  The price point is a bit on the higher-end (not crazy expensive though), and honestly, good quality, unique clothing is SO worth it, right?

Now, back to their jewelry–I had the honor of receiving this complimentary in exchange for my honest review.  What do you think?

TL necklace 2

The picture just simply does not do it justice!    It’s well-constructed, and I love the versatility of it!  It’s one of those pieces that seriously anyone could wear…young or old, edgy or not!  It’s heavy enough so that you know it’s made with good quality materials, but not so heavy that it’s uncomfortable to wear.  I had most fun sporting it with a plain tank, but you could most certainly wear this with your Sunday’s finest!

Additionally, they have fantastic customer service!  This place is a win-win in my book…great fashion, cool jewelry….

So, have you heard of Tara Lynn’s Boutique?  What did you see on their website that you love for summer 2016?

***I’ll let you in on a little secret, I have more super cute things to share with you from this company!  Stay-tuned!***

Finally, a Tinea Versicolor Treatment That Works!

Who has heard of Tinea Versicolor?  Unfortunately, me.  I first remember these ugly little splotches popping up when I was a teenager…most prominent on my back/chest.  While mine is not as severe as these photos I found online, and it sometimes goes away for months and/or years,  it’s just as annoying!!!  For those of you blessed enough not to make Mr. Versicolor’s acquaintance, here’s some info:

Tinea versicolor: Overview

Also called pityriasis versicolor

We all have yeast living on our skin. When the yeast grow out of control, a person can get a skin disease called tinea versicolor.

Your dermatologist may tell you that you have a fungal infection on your skin. Yeast is a type of fungus.

Many people get tinea versicolor. It is one of the most common skin diseases in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. People who live in tropical areas may have tinea versicolor year-round.

Tinea versicolor: Signs and symptoms

The first sign of tinea versicolor is often spots on the skin. The other signs and symptoms are:

  • The spots are lighter (sometimes darker) than the surrounding skin. The color of the spots can be white, pink, salmon, red, tan, or brown.
  • The spots can appear anywhere on the body.
  • Spots can be dry and scaly.
  • Skin may itch where the spots appear.
  • Spots become more noticeable as the skin tans. The yeast prevents the skin from tanning.
  • Spots grow slowly.
  • As the yeast grows, the spots can combine and form patches of lighter (or darker) skin.
  • The spots may disappear when the temperature drops and return in the spring or summer when the air gets warm and humid.

Fun stuff huh?  Did I go to a dermatologist?  Nope.  I’m a self-diagnoser, and I’m not afraid to admit it because I’m usually correct (90% of the time anyway).  Additionally, I’m more confident in my “diagnoses” because it’s been supported by 2 doctors–I went there for random things (an allergist and a GP for a checkup) and they both noticed, commented, and called it by name.

Now to the treatment, man, this crap is hard to get rid of.  It acts up more when I’m hot and sweaty which is a lot since I workout quite a bit, and live a pretty active lifestyle in the super hot Midwest.  The most common treatment is:

Medicine applied to the skin: There are anti-fungal shampoos, soaps, creams, and lotions that can keep the yeast under control. The active ingredient in these medicines is often selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, or pyrithione zinc.

This has been my go-to.  I’ve done Selsuin Blue (yes, the dandruff shampoo, contains selenium sulfide), which consists of letting this shampoo sit on your skin for an allotted amount of time, and then showering it off.  The downfall is that this sometimes burns my skin, and has occasionally left a bit of a scar.  I’ve even done Monistat 7 (no, it’s not just for hoo-has).  All of these treatments are time-consuming and expensive.  I’ve done more things than I can even go into on this blog post.  Some worked but took 5000 years, some didn’t work at all, and some kept it from getting worse.  None of them worked very well.  I was tempted to try anti-fungal pills (which I despise taking and putting weird things into my body) but I was getting desperate.

Anti-fungal pills: A dermatologist may prescribe these pills if the tinea versicolor covers a large area of the body, is thick, or often returns after it is treated. These pills are taken for a short time. But anti-fungal pills can cause unwanted side effects. They can interfere with other medicine that you take. A dermatologist will monitor a patient who takes this medicine.  Umm…no ma’am!

I was honored with the opportunity to try TVT Sensitive from Elk Haven Herbals complimentary in exchange for my honest review.  I had low expectations honestly, but boy did this stuff make my life!

tvt sensitiveI’m not going to lie, when I first received it and opened it, it scared me!  To me, it had a faint bleach smell.  Yes, you heard me, bleach!  I thought, there’s no way in hell I’m putting that on my skin.  Now, let’s keep this in perspective, I have a REALLY sensitive nose.  No, it didn’t smell like bleach super bad, like I was getting ready to wash a load of whites…it was just faint.  And, the ingredients are ALL NATURAL.  But still, I’m a chicken.  So I put this stuff up on my shelf and thought, no way!  I left it for about 2-3 weeks.

In those weeks, my versicolor roared…rejecting the outside bike rides my husband and I were taking in 90 degree weather.  It spread from one little friendly spot on my back, to all over my entire back.  No, I didn’t take pics, because I don’t like looking at it nor showing it off.😦 But trust me, it was bad!  I’m blessed enough to where it doesn’t much spread beyond my back and it’s mostly covered, but I do enjoy wearing tank tops etc and it makes me self-conscience for sure.  I thought, screw it.  What do I have to lose?

I tested it for a day or 2 on a small part of my body.  Then I braved up, and put it all over myself every night before bed as the directions instructed.  I was diligent, I did not miss a day.  A week goes by and it still looks the same.  On that second week, I thought I noticed some SLIGHT improvement. Honey, by week 3, I was a fan!  There was no disputing that this stuff was killing the ugly fungus, and restoring my skin to normal!  After about 5-6 weeks, the versicolor was completely gone!

Needless to say, I am a fan for life!  I will ALWAYS have this stuff in my cabinet, and I’m still using it periodically for maintenance.  It’s all natural, and I experienced no skin irritation or ugly side effects.  The price point isn’t bad (it’s a thin liquid that goes a long way), and truly, for great ,clear skin, isn’t it worth it?

Our Tinea Versicolor Treatment for sensitive skin at Elk Haven Herbals provides the necessary concentration of nitrogenous compounds to eliminate an often incurable tinea infection. By combining the nitrogenous compounds with a base of aloe vera, this product reduces the risk of reaction for those with skin sensitivies. Our eight ounce bottle should last on average two months with daily treatment.

Cheap, Easy (& Delish) Homemade Protein Bars

protein bars

Protein Bars are robbery!  Why?  First and foremost, they’re flipping disgusto!  I’ve tried several brands and they’re just not my cup of tea.  Secondly, they’re expensive!  I’m not the biggest meat eater, and I workout quite a bit, so I do try to sneak in protein from other sources.

Well, in my search to save a few bucks and find something easy, tasty and something that won’t murder my workouts with calorie overload, I ran across a recipe in which I slightly modified from Pinterest…I thought I’d share!  They looked similar to the picture shown above except that we nibbled, pinched and tore at it instead of neatly cutting into squares!😉 I was able to purchase most ingredients from Aldi which saved even more $$$$…WINNING!  These were almost a little TOO tasty!  Here goes!

NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE PEANUT BETTER PROTEIN BARS

3 cups of oatmeal (uncooked)

3/4 cups of honey

1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter

1/4 protein powder-I used chocolate flavor Purely Inspired Organic Protein

1/2 cup (maybe less) of chocolate chips (chilled in freezer)

1/2 cup peanut halves

I heated the honey and peanut butter on the stove.  Once melted together and creamy, remove from heat and add the protein powder.  Then, add the rest of the ingredients.  Refrigerate overnight or until ingredients have formed together (I actually keep these in the fridge).  You could substitute with any type of nuts, protein powder and maybe even add some dried fruit if you’re feeling extra freaky!  No, I didn’t count calories, but nothing in the ingredient list is too bad for you (all in moderation, right?) Enjoy!

Meek

Rimmell London Kate Sculpting Palette (contour, ladies)!

kate contour

The invention of contour has reallllllyy enriched our lives.  Don’t cha think? Admit it!  Whether it’s because you silently giggle at the girl that looks like Halloween or you admire the woman who has a flawless, perfect glow, and you wonder how you can achieve the look…

While I’m still a rookie in the contour game, as I don’t truly feel like I need it or that it’s necessary, I like to dabble in it some.  Rimmell London’s Kate Moss Collection has pretty much been FIRE to me (see my previous post regarding her nude lipstick collection) and she did not disappoint with this sculpting palette–so pretty!

I received both 001 Golden Sands  and 003 Golden Bronze complimentary in exchange for my honest review.

kate contour 2

Obviously, Golden Sands would not work for darker skin tones such as mine unless you love clowns.  However, the color combination is great and I think it could work well for someone of fair to medium complexion.  My photo doesn’t do it justice really!  It is really not that chalky in person, it just doesn’t work well with my chocolate!

Now, Golden Bronze I was impressed with.  I had a difficult time getting it to show up in a picture, and had to put it on my arm like 3 times!  That’s a win in my book, because your contour game shouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb.  When I’ve used this for contouring, the colors provided just enough shimmer!  The sculpter could be a little darker in my opinion, but I was still pleased in my overall look when using this product.

Another plus is the price point (runs about $6-$7) and the availability!  It’s sold at many of our favorite retailers such as Target, Walmart and more!

Stay in Shape This Holiday Weekend: The BEST FREE Workout App!

sworkit main

Howdy friends!  Boy, I must admit, it’s been HARD for me to sit down and blog as of late.  Am I the only one?!  Spring represents my FAVORITE time of year in Missouri.  From outdoor festivals which I lOVE, to outdoor exercise– biking, hiking, jogging, walking…anything that involves sweat, sunshine and movement!  So, thanks for sticking with me!

As you know, Memorial Day is quickly approaching!  While Memorial Day is one of the special days in which we remember those who have so bravely served in our military, it also is the first major kickoff to the spring and summer-ish season…the pool opens…YAY (side note, I can’t swim for shit, but that’s a whole ‘nother story)!

Soooooo I’m here to help you stay on track while you’re out slopping down food at barbeques this weekend.  I wanted to share my absolute FAVORITE (free) exercise appSWORKIT!

This thing is pretty amazing! There is a huge variety of workouts for your pleasure, and you may set each workout for the amount of time you wish.  Let’s be honest, I highly doubt you can be physically fit in 5 minutes, and if you can, please tell me?!?!  So, I’m always going longer than that.  Butttttt, exercsising some is better than none!  The custom workout option is offered for pay, but really, I don’t see why on earth you would spend an additional penny when these workouts are so bomb on their own!

The workouts are very challenging, and for the days when you don’t feel like murdering yourself (similar to  Shaun T Insanity Workout-like), you can slow it down with some yoga (which is still equally as challenging).  What I also like about Sworkit is that each exercise provides a “live” illustration.

sworkitman

For those that need to be reminded, there’s an option for this.  It sucks though, and would be the only downfall to this app.  It reminds me only after I’ve completed my workout, and it’s hard to snooze–it reminds me off and on several times, LOL!  BUT, once you finally get that sucker silenced…it’s worth it!

So how do you stay in shape?  What’s your favorite free fitness app?

Another Win for Taliah Waajid (Natural Hair) + a BOMB Lippie from a Small Company!

cowash

A few months ago, we talked about Taliah Waajid (read more here). To sum it up, I was new to the world of Ms. Waajid, but boy does she have some GREAT products!  Her Curly Hair Souffle is a staple in my son’s daily hair care regimen, and her Monoi Oil  is my main squeeze.

I alternate between Co-Washes, but the Creamy Curly Co-Wash is one of my regulars.  It smells amazing, and also has great slip which is a must during the detangling process.  It leaves my hair very shiny and well-moisturized!  The price tag is also good for a large amount!

Taliah Waajid’s Creamy Curly Co-wash is your all natural go to product when co-washing. The creamy curly co-wash gently cleanses the hair while also keeping the hair conditioned and hydrated. With Coconut and Aloe Vera as the highlight ingredients creamy curly co-wash is sure to get the job done

curly-curl-cream-6oz-61138-93f

Another win for Taliah Waajid is the Curly Curl Cream!  I have to be honest, I think some of the other products from her line smell better-this one has a little more of a perfumey smell.  However, it does what it says it does, and for me, it worked very well with a twist out!  I have yet to try it with a wash-n-go, but I’m optimistic, as she can truly do no wrong at this point🙂 !

Non-greasy cream that easily shampoos out with no build up

  • Helps to define curls and eliminate frizz
  • Conditions and nourishes hair by providing moisture and shine

new lipstick

Girrrrrrrrrrrl, look!  I have a new lippie that I want to tell you about.?!?!?!   This company gives Melt Cosmetics a run for their money for a fraction of the price (no shade), and you KNOW how I feel about my beloved Melt!  It’s a small company by the name of Kerry Kosmetics…you’re welcome!

kerry lipstick

So this color is called Rum Punch, and oh what an accurate name it ’tis!  It packs a mighty color punch and it is at the TOP of the highly pigmented ladder!  Additionally, it’s very matte, and Kerry Kosmetics has found the perfect combo of lipstick ingredients to make this lipstick very creamy!  It didn’t bleed, it lasted for hours and my lips never dried out.  It is seriously one of my favorite lipsticks to date!  You know how I feel about my bolds and my mattes!

kerry k3

It was seriously love upon first application!  It’s so bright that it almost looks fluorescent.  You only need a tad…

kerry lipstick4

I loved it so much that I had a photoshoot off of one lippie!  LOL!  The collage above was just taken in various lighting around the house, no actual filters.  I’m sold.  And that price though….

Intense, vibrant, matte color. My full-coverage formula glides on smoothly for mouth-watering, long-lasting, beautiful lips. Even though its a matte it will not dry your lips out.
(None of my lipsticks are tested on animals and the manufacturer is listed on the PETA safe list)

So what do you ladies think?  I’m a fan for life of both companies, and I really hope I have the opportunity to show you more Kerry Kosmetic lippies!  It can only get better and better!

New Beauty Items of Interest!

perversion

I really only listed this one because I love the name…Perversion Mascara by Urban Decay.  Okay, so the description sounds interesting too!  Who doesn’t want the “biggest, blackest, baddest lashes ever?”  Sign me up!

Because I’m a part of the short, stubby, eyelash crew, I’m constantly on the lookout for a mascara that’s going to do me some justice! As we’ve discussed, I’m really a fake lash girl, but sometimes I just don’t have time to put them on!  To date, I’m still making love to Benefit They’re Real mascara (see my previous post regarding the dirty deetz) but it may be time to spice things up with some perversion!

Get bigger, blacker, badder lashes with our ultra-creamy, lengthening and volumizing mascara. So intense you might need a safe word, Perversion glides on and gets you sexy in one stroke. (Yet it won’t quit until you say when.) It’s insane how black it is…the purest, deepest, most intense black color imaginable.

Perversion has a creamy, full-bodied texture that’s not too dry, not too wet. This allows just the right amount of “pull” so it glides through lashes. The result: incredible control for insane lashes. Go ahead and pile on coat after coat. Want to apply more before you go out at night? No problem. Even if it’s been all day since you applied, more Perversion always means more beautiful lashes. Our formula NEVER gets brittle or clumpy.

Wet-N-Wild

What are nail salons doing these days now that everyone can just buy their own cheaper gel nail polish without the hassle? Sally Hansen has a line out, learn about it here.  Wet n Wild also has some great shades in their new line called 1-Step Wondergel Nail Color (18 shades), have you tried one?  Do these really last an entire 2 weeks?

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Wonder Gel! The first gel formula that doesn’t require a top coat and cures without a lamp, this nail color breakthrough is about to become your nail superhero. Provides up to 2 weeks of color and shine in 1 easy step.

magnifeyes

This was sent to me recently in exchange for my honest review, are you hip?  Magnif’eyes Double Ended Shadow Liner is very much ‘the business’ in my book!  Admittedly, I have not yet used the eyeshadow portion as of yet (but I will report back once I do)!

I was in a super quick hurry and wanted to jazz up my eyes with a thick, bright winged-eye  paired with a lippie from the Kate Nude Collection that I showed you previously (view colors here).  This blue was absolutely perfect, the color was soooooo bright and pretty, very noticeable in the royal/cobalt family.  Check out this swatch!

Last but not least……

thigh chain

This makes my life right here!  My thighs are of ji-goon-dus capacity and I still want one, and plan to cop it…the infamous thigh-chain!  Yassssssss!

Sold yet?  These appear to be available just about everywhere, but the easiest for me will be my beloved Amazon!  For all you Etsy girls, there’s a wide array of styles on there too.  Super cute with a swimsuit, shorts or a skirt!  Ooooh Weeeee!

So what have you tried from this list?  Or, what are you planning to try?  Is a thigh-chain for you this spring?
